The Small Voice Record, Vol. 5

IT'S FINISHED!

Mastering the album with Nick Moon of Tone Proper
I’m both overjoyed and relieved to announce that the record is finally done! My voice healed up in time to finish the recording process in full strength, and then it took us the next two months to mix and master the work. We spent time in Colorado mixing the songs with David Wilton at his St. Ida’s studio, and then I had the pleasure of working with my old friend Nick Moon on the final master here in Portland. I’m so pleased with the final product, and I can honestly say that it wouldn’t have been possible without the overwhelming amount of support, prayer, and friendship that was extended to us from start to finish.

THE RELEASE

The album release is scheduled for June 15. But here's the catch: IT'S FREE! We've really felt the Lord asking us to give this album away for one year, and it's our joy to do so! So beginning June 15th a full digital download of "Love & War & The Sea In Between" will be available for free on my website. When downloading the album you'll be able to choose from various file formats, including full CD-quality. You'll also receive files containing the album art (designed by Chris Tobias), liner notes and lyrics. At some point in the coming year we'll begin "selling" the album in its final hardcover edition, as a beautiful hardbound book (details below). But in the meantime, if you'd like an actual CD in hand, come on out to one of my shows and you'll get a free Garrels family original (think cardboard sleeve + rubber stamps). In grand Portland style, it's DIY! We’re going to press thousands of these limited edition hand-stamped CDs and give away as many as we possibly can in one year. It’s gonna be fun!

PARTNERSHIP

Your generosity has paid for this album, and we are so grateful! Not only have all the collaborators been paid, but mixing and mastering costs have also been covered. This is the first time we’ve not gone in debt while making an album! The only remaining cost we have is album manufacturing. This includes the limited edition albums we're giving away for free as well as the hardcover editions we'll be giving to donors, selling in music shops, bookstores and Amazon, and submitting to digital aggregates like Pandora and itunes (since the DIY-version won't cut it there). Any money earned from the sale of the hardcover album and itunes downloads will either be given away or used to manufacture more copies to give away. We want this to be a “year of jubilee"!
If you'd like to contribute towards album manufacture, so that we can blanket the world with music + God's love, you may do so here:
You can send a check to:
Small Voice Records

P.O. Box 11500

Or you can donate electronically by clicking here or by visiting the "Store" section of my website.
Thank you for all of your love & support during the course of this year-and-a-half-long project. Your prayers & encouragement have sustained us. We can't wait to share this music with you!
Be blessed,
Josh & Michelle Garrels

I am so excited that the new album is finished. Confess that I feel bad that I wasn't able to financially help with this project. Very grateful for those that were and did.

Can't wait to see you in Minnesota!!

I will get the digital download, but will pay to get a hard copy when available.

God bless you and yours!!

hooray, it's done! I can't wait to hear it!

Wait, say wha?? My initial instinct is yo music is too good to give away for free! It's worth it's weight in... Stock certificates! But oh well, I'll be sure to pick up the booklet when it comes out. And hopefully now you'll finally get the exposure you SERIOUSLY deserve. Can't wait to see you topping the noisetrade charts! ^_^
And afterwards, you will hopefully have a fan base worthy of your talent.

Say whaaaaaaat? Holy Ker-Schmoly, you're giving away all the money for a year even from the hard CDs? Dude, you guys are so wicked - er, holy amazing! I hope God gives you back double, and you will gain enough new fans who will buy the jacaranda album that you will be able to get by ok. (any plans for what you're gonna do this year, or are you just gonna wing it? Festivals you think will cover it for you?)

Very exciting news- We can't wait to hear your new music! :o) The free-thing....have you ever read the book "No Compromise" about Keith and Melody Green? They used to give away Keith's music, too, since they viewed it more as ministry than industry. What are your thoughts on that?....So thankful to the Lord that He is using your voice to bring Him glory.

Love you felt led to give this away for free for a short time. The Lord has blessed me with funds, so I'll buy a t-shirt and pay a little over for the music. The music the Lord allows you to make is amazing and I look forward to watching you go deeper with it...Grace to you bro...

Your "small voice" in the music industry reminds me of the "still, small voice" of Jehovah calling out to this world.

"Cast your bread upon the surface of the waters, and after many days you will find it again." Throw in a NT twist and "you will find it again 30, 60, even 100 times more!"

Just want you and the whole family and recording team how much I admire ya'll. God bless! (and keep the Triangle area of NC in mind for concerts, esp Chapel Hill during the UNC school year!)

Hey Josh, We are supper stoked about the new Album. We are going on a road trip over here two days after it comes out so we'll be listening to it from Kosovo to Hungary. Seriously appreciate what you guys are doing and pray the Lord will multiply the love and everything you guys need. This is Jeff Harry from the Packinghouse, Redlands CA. we live over here now in Kosovo. You should come over sometime when you are in Europe.

Your album is awesome. Thanks for letting it be accessible for free. I was wondering, would it be okay to use one of the songs in a little video i'm making? I'd give you credit and link back to your site and it's not for commercial use, it's just a little stop motion i was making.. ? Thanks again. Becky

Here's a silly question - the album is available free for download, but only within the U.S., correct? I'm in Canada, and when I click on the link to download the "free album," each song is listed for $1 USD. I am more than happy to pay. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was missing.

Josh - upon first listening, I love the songs. Can't wait to download the tunes and have a proper listen to them.

Hmm, looks like people in Canada *can* download the album for free now. Thankyou for sharing your gift so freely - as a fan I pledge to do my part in paying the blessing forward.

Looking forward to hearing news of a concert tour up to Vancouver, BC in support of this album (hint, hint). :)

I run a winery here in SE Portland. A friend turned me onto your music. Not sure what kind of venues you're looking to play, but we'd love to host you for a show if you're interested. Diggin' the new record.

Thank you so much for the CD. I came across it totally by accident today and heard a little. Your voice is a gift and is certainly beautiful. I can't wait to hear the whole thing while I am on the bus going home from work. Thanks so much!! I truly appreciate it.

Thank you for this great album! We are missionaries in Costa Rica, who run a mission house and have been listening to your music for about two years. Wonderful!
God uses you to bring refreshing to us and to others. There is truth in your music that people need to hear.
We hear touches of Tom Rush, Van Morrison and others who are old favorites..... sort of tells you our age brackett!
Be blessed today and thank you again!
